Fossil to Colossal

Our equine world can be very complex. We can go from riding a pretty yellow horse to half-halting your dappled palomino mare during the off-season. I remember the day where I needed help to put on a helmet for the first time because I only wanted the blue helmet (that was my favorite color so I thought it was the best choice) that was too big, now we need that fancy name brand to look professional for the industry. It all had to start somewhere though.

Going way back to the beginning of time, millions of years ago is where we will be traveling to today. What do you picture it looking like? What did the plants and animals look like? Imagine certain mammals being no bigger than a small dog. The present-day equine that you are riding was about the size of say that Border Collie that runs around the ranch. Over time and generations, they then grew to be approximately 15.2 hand horse.

The Equus as we know today is because of the Hyrocatherum. Could you imagine that instead of riding the 16 hand horse, you have a smaller horse than a common-size miniature equine?

We created a short video for you to go through the lineage of the Equus. The video below will give you a starting idea to go further in your own studies if you choose. This will also be great content to use at future equine camps.

Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed it! If you need assistance in creating a plan using the Equid Evolution at your camps, contact us and we will make content for your camp. Thanks for joining the Equidae Family!
